Fancy an ice cream or a dessert in the centre of Mulhouse? Between two shops, after a visit or to round off a meal, our ice-cream sundaes and sweet crêpes are served all day, a stone's throw from the place de la Réunion. Here is a quick tour of the classics, and their stories.
The great classics
The Dame Blanche
Three scoops of vanilla ice cream, hot chocolate sauce and whipped cream. The contrast between hot and cold is what makes it so charming. Its origins remain a mystery; in Switzerland and Germany, it is also known as the "coupe Danemark".
The Poire Belle Hélène
Vanilla ice cream, pear, chocolate sauce and whipped cream. Its name comes from La Belle Hélène, Offenbach's operetta first staged in Paris in 1864: several restaurants on the Grands Boulevards named dishes in its honour at the time. The recipe is traditionally attributed to the great chef Auguste Escoffier.
Café liégeois and chocolat liégeois
Coffee (or chocolate) and vanilla ice cream, topped with whipped cream. Despite its name, the liégeois is not a speciality of Liège: it used to be the "café viennois" (Viennese coffee), renamed in Paris in tribute to Liège's resistance against the German army in August 1914. In Liège, by the way, people still call it café viennois!
The Banana Split
Banana, vanilla, chocolate and strawberry ice cream, chocolate sauce and whipped cream. According to the most widespread version, it was born in 1904 in a pharmacy in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.
Our house sundaes
- Coupe Dijonnaise: blackcurrant sorbet, vanilla ice cream, fruit, syrup and whipped cream. Blackcurrant is Dijon's great speciality, famous for its crème de cassis.
- Coupe Cardinal: blackcurrant, pear and raspberry sorbets, whipped cream.
- Coupe Corrézienne: praline and vanilla ice cream, chestnut cream, chocolate sauce and whipped cream.
- Coupe Jamaïque: coffee, vanilla, rum, raisins, coffee sauce and whipped cream.
- Coupe Crampous: apple sorbet drizzled with Calvados, our nod to Normandy.
- Coupe Troïka: blackcurrant sorbet, lemon sorbet and vodka.
- Sunday Fraise: vanilla ice cream, strawberry, strawberry syrup and whipped cream.
How about an ice-cream crêpe?
With us, ice cream also pairs with crêpes: Canadienne Royale (maple syrup, vanilla ice cream and whipped cream), Colombine (chestnut cream, vanilla ice cream), Écureuil (praline ice cream, hazelnuts and salted butter caramel), Frisson (chocolate and mint ice cream) or Iceberg, with three scoops of your choice. And for fans of flambéed desserts, the Normande Royale combines apples, vanilla ice cream and Calvados.
Where to find us
