Our Crêperie
The Crampous Mad crêperie
For more than 40 years, the Crampous Mad crêperie has brought together the cuisines of Alsace and Brittany.
Founded in 1980, the crêperie was taken over in 2016 by two new owners and partners, Françoise RITZENTHALER and David CHARLES. Their goal: give the crêperie a new identity by fully renovating the restaurant while keeping the soul of this Mulhouse landmark.
The concept:
Crampous Mad sits in the heart of Mulhouse's shopping district: a familiar place spread over two floors of an old Alsatian house, unique in the city centre. Its cheerful atmosphere and playful design move between two styles and two cultures. Fresh yet respectful of the historic setting, the décor draws on both Brittany and Alsace, with weathered, graphic touches, bold patterns and subtle maritime notes. Both authentic and original, the crêperie welcomes every generation to share a simple but carefully made dish: buckwheat galettes and wheat crêpes.

Local Produce
Françoise and David make a point of working with local produce as much as possible, from sustainable farming.
Our Breton products are also carefully selected for their taste and origin.
Every galette and crêpe is cooked to order, one at a time!
Most of our vegetables are grown by the Fischer farm in Zimmersheim. All year round, our grower sells us a selection of seasonal vegetables directly.
Our eggs are 100% Alsatian and come from the Prim'Vert farm in Michelbach-le-Haut: incomparably fresh, with all their flavour.
Our story
The Crampous Mad crêperie opened on Friday 26 September 1980. Its proud owners, Vicki and Bertrand, opened the first crêperie in Mulhouse, with room for 50 guests.
Over the years the crêperie became a reference and a landmark of Mulhouse city centre. In 1990, to keep up with demand, the owners bought the building next door to enlarge the restaurant to 90 seats. The team grew to 10 people!
The menu kept growing, always true to Breton tradition while adapting to Alsatian tastes: a happy and delicious meeting! More than 100 recipes are carefully kept and have built the crêperie's reputation.
"Our restaurant is also about wonderful encounters with our guests, most of whom have become loyal friends," say Vicki and Bertrand, who often served several generations of the same family. Crampous Mad became the place to get together and share a friendly moment.
After more than 30 years, thousands of crêpes and wonderful encounters, the former owners decided in 2015 to hand over the restaurant and enjoy a well-earned retirement. But they did not want to leave their "treasure" to a stranger. Friends Françoise and David, who had known Vicki and Bertrand for years, were looking to start their own business. When they heard the crêperie was for sale, they jumped at the chance and became the ideal successors!
The handover happened gradually and in full trust, so that beyond the walls, the soul of Crampous Mad would live on…
